Just behind the cover page of the PDF file is the thoroughly G-rated holiday fable of a packrat and an oversized termite. It's exactly the kind of story that you can read to enraptured small children in front of a cozy fire on Christmas eve. Their cute little hearts will be warmed by it and the only downsides might be that you, the narrator, would have to do a little 'splainin' here and there. But this is a feature, not a bug: opportunities to be perceived as omniscient (temporarily) by small persons should be grasped with all possible vigor. This could be one of those opportunities, Dear Reader.
I assert these assertions with full confidence because this little 10-page, 1500-word story has already been kid-tested. By me. Two years ago, in fact. "Read it again, Somehair," said four grandkids in unison.
And temporary omniscience isn't all; the web-savvy ones (those older than age 2, these days) will be impressed that you downloaded such a cool story from the Intertube all by yourself. Go for it!
GO AHEAD AND PLAY SANTA!
If this little christmassy whimsy gives you a grin or a pang or even a microsmile, feel free to pass the PDF file along to someone — or someones — who wouldn’t hate a little extra holiday cheer…and/or an opportunity to be a read-aloud hero.
Thanks — and here’s hoping you have a danciful 2014 holiday season!
